Meet the Judges
John Sowa
is returning as our head judge. He's on the Homewood Science Center Board of Directors and often shows up to events as his alter ego, Einstein!
As a chemistry professor at Governors State University, John will examine the bonds of the molecular mixtures and educate us on the science behind the cocktails!

Emily Bohn
is no stranger to award winning cocktails! Bartender extraordinaire of The Maple Tree Inn, Emily was once listed by Beverage Media as one of the year's "Top Ten Bartenders to Watch" and in 2015, she was the 1st place winner in the prestigious Tenzing Coupe Cocktail Competition for her cocktail “Amber Equinox.” Her expertise in the beverage industry makes her the perfect judge for our competition!

Phil Lee
is known as the Spin Artist in the film production world. In between editing and producing videos for high profile clients like McDonald's, State Farm, and the U.S. Army, Phil moonlights as a DJ and can get any party started. Serving on the Homewood Science Center Board of Directors, Phil brings the arts into STEAM and will judge the artistic aspects of our contender's cocktails.

Steve Banasiak
is an outstanding physics teacher at HF High School and he certainly gives his students his all. Steve's nomination for the National Science Foundation’s Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching of Science and Mathematics is well deserved, just like his summer break and the adult beverages he'll judge at Cocktail Chemistry Challenge!
