Meet Jacob Leggett, age 9.
At the White House Science Fair in 2016 Jacob suggested to President Obama that he have a 'kid science advisor.' Great idea Jacob!
Inspired by Jacob Leggett, President Obama's Kid Science Advisor, Homewood Science Center wanted to include children in planning and presenting our programs. We values the input and ideas from children.
That's why we developed a Kids' Committee!
The Kids' Committee is a program for children who are 8-12 years old.
Facilitated by Homewood resident, clinical psychologist and professor at
The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Kin Kong Ph.D.,
the Kids' Committee meets monthly to test out exhibits for PopUp SCIENCE and provide their ideas for future programming.
You'll see our Kids' Committee, along with some of their parents, volunteer at PopUp SCIENCE events. The kids share their enthusiasm for science with visitors, leading other children and their families through exhibits and activities. Kids teaching kids, how cool! Kids' Committee members and their families must commit to volunteering for our family programs.
Our Kids' Committee is on a Mission
Homewood Science Center Kids' Committee offers a remarkable opportunity for young people to be empowered to make a difference in their communities, to inspire a love of science and learning in others, to develop leadership skills and to collaborate with like-minded peers and adults.
