Service Description

The engineering design process is fun, especially when roller coasters are involved! Choose a date for when you would like to conduct your TEACHER-LED in-school field trip. The Exploring Engineering Box will be dropped off the business day before your selected scheduled field-trip date and the digital asset will be emailed to you. The box of materials is for 1 classroom, 30 students max. If you are booking for multiple classrooms, please select the number on the booking form so you receive the correct amount of materials. Delivery addresses that are more than 15 miles outside of Homewood, IL will require the Exploring Engineering boxes to be shipped and billed an additional $25 per box for shipping. The time is a suggestion- this TEACHER-LED field trip can be conducted when is best for your classroom schedule and should take 90 minutes to complete. If you would prefer this in-school field trip be facilitated by an HSC staff member, please go back and choose that option. • Teachers will receive an engaging digital presentation* to show students with a teacher guide to help with facilitation • Learn the history of Homewood’s John Miller, a roller coaster inventor in the 1900’s • Hear about the engineering design process from real engineers in our community • Create a roller coaster hill using everyday materials *A smart board type devise with internet access is needed to conduct this activity. Please make sure your classroom is equipped with this technology. Students will work at their desks during the facilitation portion of the activity and then move to the floor to build roller coaster prototypes. Homewood Science Center provides the audio visual presentation and building materials.
