Feeling blue about not being green?
I have a confession. My green efforts are not the best and I feel bad about it. Yep, I am the person who forgets to bring her bag to the grocery store and puts one loaf of bread in a plastic bag. How dumb is that? I am also that space cadet who leaves the water running while I brush my teeth. Really?
Do I want to do better? Yes! I am probably like most of people, I have some bad habits I want to change. I want to learn how to live a greener life. Individuals' habits can make a global difference, so Homewood Science Center created Think Globally, Act Locally: You can make a sustainable difference! a PopUp SCIENCE event this Saturday July 22, 10am - 1pm. We have partnered with local green champions to create interactive exhibits and activities showing participants how to create sustainable habits. Drop in for a few minutes or a few hours. For ages birth and beyond. No kids, no problem! PopUp SCIENCE is for everyone! Our partners include Homewood Public Library, Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, Schneider Electric, and Studio 604's Anne Colton and Amy Eagle. We are sponsored by Suburban Service League.
As an added bonus, when you attend Think Globally, Act Locally: You can make a sustainable difference!, you can also visit Homewood's Farmers' Market in our 'backyard' on Martin Ave. Did you know that shopping at a farmers' market is a great green habit? Food in the U.S. travels an average of 1,500 miles to get to your plate. All this shipping uses large amounts of natural resources (especially fossil fuels), contributes to pollution, and creates trash with extra packaging. Food at farmers' markets is not only fresh and delicious, it is transported shorter distances and is generally grown using methods that minimize the impact on the earth.
Stop feeling blue about not being green and stop by Homewood Science Center and Homewood's Farmers' Market at 18022 Dixie Hwy this Saturday July 22, 10 am - 1 pm for Think Globally, Act Locally: You can make a sustainable difference!
