I Spy...An H-F psychologist whose research is making headlines!
Meet H-F resident Nick Epley. He is a Professor of Behavioral Science at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Nick Epley is making headlines across the country! His study on social connectivity, conducted on the Metra, has people talking. Read about his work, with articles appearing in the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, and the Huffington Post.
Nick's research on social connectivity and its correlation to health and happiness was conducted right here on the Metra line. Participants were offered a $5 gift card to Starbucks and people were assigned randomly to either 1.) ride the train alone or 2.) strike up a conversation with someone they didn't know. A third group did not receive any objective.
Can you guess which group had the highest ratings of happiness?
The people who talked with strangers.
Next time you are feeling down, take a tip from Nick and make some social connections!
Nick Epley's work inspired us so much, that we decided to dedicate a PopUp SCIENCE event all about Social Psychology. Join us at our event tent at Homewood's Giant Block Party on Saturday August 20th from 11am-2pm for "Science Says...Be Social!"
